Invitation from the Toowoomba Diocesan Leadership Group
Wednesday 2 May will mark exactly 12 months since Bishop Bill was officially removed as the Bishop of our Diocese, causing great heartache for him and for the people of the Diocese. To stand in solidarity with Bishop Bill, on 2 May the Toowoomba Diocesan Leadership Group invites everyone in the Diocese to share Eucharist together at the usual 6.30am Mass at the Cathedral. Please consider attending that Mass and, by your presence, making a quiet statement of solidarity and acknowledgement of the injustice that has taken place. As part of the gathering, everyone is invited to bring a flower to place beside the empty chair which has marked his absence for the past 12 months. For those in the wider Diocese beyond Toowoomba city if you would like to share in this prayerful observance the Toowoomba Diocesan Leadership Group are happy to offer Prayers of the Faithful for your regular mass on that day.
This site will provide you with background and documents detailing the forced early retirement of Bishop Bill Morris from the Diocese of Toowoomba. The site has been established by the Toowoomba Diocesan Leadership Group. This group is made up of the Priests, Pastoral Leaders and Heads of Agencies of the Diocese of Toowoomba. The purpose of this site is to provide facts around the early retirement of Bishop Morris.
In 2011 following the statement from Rome of the Australian Bishops the Toowoomba Diocesan Leadership Group sought a meeting to gain a better understanding of a number of unresolved matters (eg. how they now had a better understanding of why Bishop Morris was forced into early retirement. A meeting between a delegation from the Toowoomba Diocesan Leadership Group and members of the Queensland Bishops will take place on Thursday 12th April.

Monthly Mass at Lourdes Home
On the first Thursday of each month, Fr Jeff Scully offers Mass at Lourdes Home at 7.30pm in thanksgiving for the gift Bishop Bill has been to us and to pray for our diocese and our new Bishop. However, in April, the first Thursday coincides with the celebration of Holy Thursday, so for April only, the Lourdes Home Mass will be held on the second Thursday, 12 April. The mass in May will be on Thursday 3rd May. All most welcome.
In 2011 the Toowoomba Diocesan Leadership Group commissioned a report by retired retired Supreme Court Judge Bill Carter QC. You can read this Memorandum here.
